My name is John Jacob and I am a senior at the University of Toledo. Currently I am taking a distance learning course called Podcasting, Vodcasting and Blogging. Having very little experience in the aforementioned areas, it seemed like an excellent way to dip my toes into an area of communication that I had yet to explore.
As a degreed freelance web designer, I am well aware of the power of visual communication. Nevertheless, new methods of communication such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and professional blogs have exploded into the cultural consciousness. Simply having a web site and an email address are no longer good enough. Today's consumer demands a certain level of involvement and interaction. This course promises to give me a better understanding of the technologies behind Web 2.0. In turn, the methods learned will allow me to connect to consumers and create an enduring relationship through non-traditional methods. That is what piqued my interest in this course.
